What a burn ban means in Mississippi

In Mississippi, a county board of supervisors asks for a burn ban and the Mississippi Forestry Commission approves it. Each ban has an end date and expires at midnight on that date, and each lists either no exemptions or the kinds of burning it still allows.

A burn ban means no outdoor burning of any kind: campfires, bonfires, fire pits, burn barrels, debris burning and field burning are all prohibited. Gas and propane grills and heaters and charcoal grills are allowed. The sheriff enforces burn bans, and knowingly breaking one is a misdemeanor with a fine of $100 to $500.
