Is there a burn ban in Ohio today?
Statewide open burning restriction in effect today
Ohio law prohibits open burning of wood, brush, weeds, grass and rubbish between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. during March, April, May, October and November, outside the limits of any municipality. Today is in one of those months.
Statewide open burning restriction not in effect today
Ohio’s statewide restriction applies between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. in March, April, May, October and November. Today is not in one of those months.
What the rule says
- The law excepts a fire kindled in a plowed field, garden or public highway at least 200 feet from woodland, brushland or a field of dry grass or other flammable material.
- The governor can limit or end these restrictions by executive order, and the chief of the Division of Forestry can adopt rules that expand the times and places for fires.
Cities and villages, fire departments and the state fire marshal can set their own limits. Check with your local fire department before you burn.
This page describes the statewide seasonal rule. It does not list bans that individual counties or towns declare, and it does not cover fire-weather warnings or restrictions on public land.
